Music is a language in itself. It is very much like learning to speak and read a foreign language because each musical symbol stands for a very specific musical meaning. Take the time to carefully read through the music terms in this article to prepare you for music training on any instrument, including the human voice!

Begin your musical study by becoming familiar with these very important musical terms:

BAR LINE – A vertical line which separates notes into groups

DOUBLE BAR LINE – A set of two (2) vertical lines which stand for the end of a piece of music

REPEAT SIGN – Double bar with two dots at the end of a section or piece of music which indicates that section will be played twice.

MEASURE – The distance between two bar lines.

TREBLE CLEF – The S-shaped symbol which stands for notes played with the right hand. This is also referred to as the G cleff since this inner curve of the symbol rests on the G line.

BASS CLEF – The reversed C-shaped symbol which stand for notes played with the left hand. This clef is also referred to as the F cleff since the two dots beside the clef surround the F line.

STAFF – The five lines and four spaces of both the bass and treble clefs.

QUARTER NOTE – Musical symbol with solid note head and stem which gets one count of sound.

QUARTER REST – Musical symbol resembling a sideways W which gets one count of silence.

HALF NOTE – Musical symbol with hollow note head and stem which gets two counts of sound.

HALF REST – Solid half block sitting on third line of the staff which gets two counts of silence.

DOTTED HALF NOTE – Musical symbol with hollow note head, dot and stem which gets three counts of sound.

WHOLE NOTE – Musical symbol resembling a circle on the staff which gets four counts of sound.

WHOLE REST – Solid half block hanging from the second line on the staff which gets four counts of silence.

CHORD – Two or more notes played at the same time.

BLOCKED CHORD – Two or more notes from the same chord played at the same time.

BROKEN CHORD – Two or more notes from the same chord played in sequence.

INTERVAL – The distance between two notes on the musical staff.

FINGERING – Refers to which finger number is used to play a particular note (See Chapter Two: Fingering)

CURVED FINGER – Refers to playing with a rounded finger and on the tip of each finger. This is the best position of the fingers for playing piano or keyboard because it develops finger strength and independence.

The 12 Palaces of Chinese Astrology (Polaris Astrology, Real Chinese Astrology) 1. Life Palace

This is the most important palace among the 12 palaces. It represents a person’s personality, psyche, and behavior. It also represents one’s innate abilities, physical appearance.

2. Sibling Palace

Sibling palace represents the relationship between a person and his or her siblings. It also represents the number of siblings and the gender of siblings.

3. Spouse Palace

Spouse palace represents a person’s love life, a person’s relationship between his or her spouse. It also represent the physical appearance and personality of a person’s spouse. It foretells if the person is going to have early marriage, late marriage, never married or in risk of divorce.

4. Children Palace

Children palace represents the gender of a person’s children, the number of children, the personalities of children and the relationship between the children and the parents.

5. Wealth Palace

Wealth palace represents a person’s wealth, poor or rich. How he or she feels about money, and how money is acquired.

6. Health Palace

Health Palace represents a person’s health. What type of health problem he or she may have or at risk of.

7. Journey Palace

Journey palace represents the external relationship between a person and others, especially when a person is traveling or moving from places to palace.

8. Friend Palace

Friend Palace represents the relationship between a person and his or her friends. What type of friends dose a person have, good friends or bad friends. Friend palace is formerly called Servant palace. Today most people just call it friend palace.

9. Career Palace

Career Palace represents a person’s career. What type of occupation a person has. Is he or she making money from his or her occupation. Dose a person feels good or bad about his or her occupation. How dose a person’s life being affected by his or her occupation.

10. Estate Palace

Estate palace represents a person’s possession, most importantly, the possession of real estate. Literally, in Chinese, the Estate palace is called farm and real estate palace

11. Pleasure Palace

]]>

Pleasure palace represents a person’s interest and hobby. How a person spends his or her money. This palace is also very important, similar to the life, it is about a person’s psyche and feelings.

12. Parent Palace (Physical Appearance Palace)

Parent Palace represents the relationship between a person and his or her parents including his or her employer or superior. In some branches of Polaris astrology, the Parent palace is also called the Physical appearance palace.

13. Body Palace

According to most of the Polaris astrology litterateurs, the Life palace is called “before heaven” it represents a person’s innate abilities or personalities that he or she is born with. The Body palace is called “after heaven”. It represents the abilities a person could acquire or achieve, if he or she worked hard enough. According to some astrologers, the importance of the Body palace is no less then the Life palace and the pleasure palace.

In addition, some astrologers believe that because the life palace is before heaven and the Body palace is after heaven, the Life palace represents the earlier part of a person’s life which is before the age of forty. The Body Palace represents the later part of a person’s life, after the age of forty. Therefore, when analyzing the earlier part of a person’s life, The life palace should receive more focus then the Body palace. Vice versa for analyzing the later part of a person’s life. This concept is only supported by a small group of astrologers, and I currently do not have enough statistic to confirm it.

Palaces that are Shared by the Body Palaces

Due to the rules on determining the Life palace and the body palace, the Body palace can only share its location with one of the following six palaces:

1. Life Palace 2. Career Palace 3. Wealth Palace

4. Journey Palace 5. Spouse Palace 6. Pleasure Palace

Whichever palace the Body palace shears with, It is where one’s energy is mostly focus on.

Indicates that a person is constantly focusing his energy on himself, have great fortitude and emotionally strong. However, this can sometimes means stubbornness.

Indicates career is everything, a person of such is constantly in pursuit of leadership and recognition for what he does.

Indicates nothing is more important than money. a person of such is very economical and never wastes money.

A person of such loves to travel and doesn’t like to stay at one place for long. His working environment is always changing.

Because such person is constantly focusing his or her energy on spousal matters and family life, his or her emotion on such matters is highly sensitive. Thus, it can be interpreted as emotionally weak. Any minor wrong doings from the spouse, boyfriend or girlfriend can hurt his or her feelings.

Such person is constantly in pursuit of his hobbies and interest. He can be emotionally distressed if his occupation is not in the field of his interest.

*Please be advised that the above definitions are only general descriptions. Whether it is auspicious or inauspicious depends on stars in its palace, the opposite palace and companion palaces etc.

Major Fortune and Minor Fortune

While the 12 Palaces represent all the aspects of one’s life, Major-fortune and Minor-fortune represent the fortunes or the happenings that had or will occur to a person during particular period of his or her life.

The 1960′s period established the day and age of serenity, love, and grooviness, and practically all 1960′s costumes you see, whether they are children hippie costumes or classic hippie clothes, signal in some manner that each day is designed to be lived a little bit more in a psychedelic way. The 1960′s had been a very special period of time in US historical past. From paisley patterns or the quintessential flower child, 60′s costumes continue to encourage a far more calming lifestyle.

Just about all hippie costumes have been influenced by hippie clothes of the 60′s which have been observed by numerous generations of people observing video footage of Woodstock, Viet Nam War protests, and other documentaries. Hipy costumes for girls often consisted of nothing more than a vibrantly colored shirts, a rather skimpy skirt and some long fringe leather boots – which is a fantastic option for 1960′s parties or an evening of club hopping – plus never forget to place a flower in your curly hair.

The 1960′s in the United states ended up being a time period loaded with worry. The young people young of the United States launched a struggle vs the institutional establishment and business and political strongholds. The mantra of everybody dressed in hippie clothes was created by Timothy Leary, an influential American psychologist: “turn on, Tune in, Drop out.” Even though Mr. Leary was referring to psychotropic serious drugs, the slogan grew to become quite frankly the way in which to describe a generation of individuals disappointed with the path the country was heading.

]]>

Hippie costumes have celebrated a large resurgence in desirability since the 1990′s when Mike Myers adopted all of the “cool” parts of the 60′s and created an extremely flourishing set of three motion pictures which was a little 007 spoof and part homage to the psychedelic hippie clothes and styles that identified the era. Adult hippie costumes and 1960′s period costumes highlighting the uncomplicated but enticing attire used by Felicity Shagwell, played by the wonderfulHeather Graham, actually grew to become a component of people’s daily attire – an example where costumes ended up being so popular they became enjoyable to wear even if there was no costume celebration to go to.1960′s costumes are definitely not completely about dressing in hippie costumes. In reality, quite a few 1960′s television programs influenced 1960′s costumes which may have just about as much worldwide recognition as hippie costumes, such as Flintstones and Jetsons costumes, and Star Trek (first TV show) costumes. It’s true, though, that when somebody thinks about the 60′s, hippie clothes are almost at all times the first element to spring to mind for their ultimate grooviness and their peaceful nature they have come to represent, will most likely continue being a primary option for any individual in need of a 60′s costume. Hey, you could possibly not need to pay for the outfit, there is probably a good chance you might have a little something that can get the job done inside your dresser.

You must freak out occasionally and if you are looking for an occasion, what is wrong with the Halloween? This Halloween just go berserk and get the wackiest costumes for your entire family including the dog! Mind you, this will not require too much of a hassle either unless you consider punching a few keys on the computer hard work! That’s all you need to do to pick out some of the funniest and the most ingenious Halloween costumes that have ever been thought of.

You can use any route to get to your objective of finding funny . One of the routes is to pick out the subject that you like and there are several ideas for this. You can start picking out adult Halloween costumes to begin with and then go for children Halloween costumes. There’s another section for pet Halloween costumes as well as sections for infants and toddlers. If you use this route you can order the different costumes one by one for each family member.

There is yet another route for picking out the costumes for your family. This is the direct route. There are several subjects to help you in the search for . These subjects are very diverse in nature but you can pick a common theme for the entire family or go for different subjects. Some of these subjects are Rock Star costumes and Spider Man costumes, Pirate costumes, and costumes related to Harry Potter, Batman, Star Wars, Superman and Disney characters.

Your subject can be witches, angels, animals, aliens, devils, fairies, clowns, cheerleaders, kings, queens, nurses and doctors. You may prefer period costumes and for this preference there are costumes from the 20s and the 50s or the 80s. You may pick the colonial period or that of the Native American Indians. Renaissance is a choice and so is the period of the Romans. When you see the costumes for Busy Bee or Buggin’ out Junior, Witch-a-licious witch, Punk Skeleton child, Bad Seed Creature Reacher, Grave Reaper and the Pretty Little Kitten or Roxie Short Junior you will realize the true meaning of wacky!

Specifically from the 1300s to the 1500s.

I would call a museum that has a display of costumes. The curator may know of some vendors who sell these types of patterns. Also, you could contact a theatrical group in your area for advice.

Question by Lola Fabala: Costumes??
I am in my schools production of Pirates of Penzance, and I am a daughter in the courus. However, I am having a trouble finding a costume. Besides ebay and amazon, does anyone know a website that would have costumes that would fit this era (late 1800s) that don’t cost too much money (up to $ 50)
My mom said she would pay $ 60 actually (it would be my holloween costume too)

Best answer:

Answer by Maggie
It will cost you a lot more to buy a full period costume than to piece one together. I would recommend you do some research, get some ideas for what you want, then start hitting up the local used clothing stores. Check out the local costume shop for something that you can spice up a bit. Or, even better, check into renting/borrowing a costume from the Theatre department at the local high school/university. They have storage rooms full of it and they’ll often let you use it for free. Good luck!
